PC Games -- Digital or Physical?

(1 Vote)
I recently came across an article about how the Download to Drive business has changed over the past couple of years. Since this is something I have been a part of when it started and have seen it first hand, I thought I would chip in and write about it.

It was a delight to me when I first came across this concept of downloading the game directly to your hard drive instead of buying the 10 CDs or the 1 DVD. DVD was much better since you didn’t have to change the CD during the installation. If you have a PC like mine that crashes trying to read CDs, good luck installing that humongous game!! Anyway, back to the point, I immediately embraced the idea and started buying all my games online instead of going to the nice little stores which at the time were stocking fewer and fewer PC games. It was the time between the new PS3 and “Games for Windows” when every one thought PC games were going to be a thing of the past. Thanks to Microsoft, the PC Game industry booming again.

Turn your Console Off!

(1 Vote)

We always hear about dead load consumption and how it affects us all. Anyways, this article which actually is a report compares your electricity costs when you keep ur console one and when you turn it off (after playing that is).

I must admit, I sometimes leave it on but mostly I turn all my gizmos off before I go to bed. Wanna be a green-gamer??

"The report concludes that the power used by consoles each year is roughly equal to the annual amount needed to power San Diego. This massive amount of power usage is due to two factors: a) most modern consoles use far more electricity than other types of consumer electronics, and b) Americans have a habit of simply leaving their consoles turned on even when they're not in use. Stacker!!

(1 Vote)

Wanna stack boxes all day and so nothing else? Well this is the game for you then!!

There is no motivation to stack boxed or are there any rewards, no violence, no competition. There is nothing that can preach violence or sex or anything for that matter. So if you are looking for a game that has no impact whatsoever on your life or your kids, this is the game for you.

I cannot believe that anyone would come up with something like this but then its even harder to believe that some parents have a problem with this game as well.

"My kid certainly doesn't want to stack cases of instant coffee in a hot warehouse all day, like his old man did," said Loretto, PA father Reginald Hauser. "Now they're saying there's a video game that might glamorize the activity. Those video-game honchos are up to the same old tricks."

Obama for Gaming … or not??

(2 Votes)
Desi Themes - Home - Indian themes for PS3, XBox and PC, Desi themes, desi wallpapers I have to say, for the first time in my life, I admired the people of America when I saw Barack Obama on stage yesterday giving his speech after he had been elected the new President of the United States of America. One of my colleagues was talking about why he was voting for Obama before election day. “The world sees America as an old grumpy white guy who wants blow their country up.” Its about time we change that. Seeing Barack elected did change that.

Coming to the topic at hand, after the election speeches and celebrations, everyone started thinking about what it would be like in various areas to have Obama running the country. As gamers, obvious look at this is to see how it will affect the gaming industry as a whole. There was a very nice article on 1up by Sam Kennedy outlaying Obama’s views on video gaming. He quotes Obama saying

"I would call upon the video game industry to give parents better information about programs and video games by improving the voluntary rating system we currently have. Broadcasters and video game producers should take it upon themselves to improve this system to include easier to find and easier to understand descriptions of exactly what kind of content is included. But if the industry fails to act, then my administration would."

New Cricket game for Wii?

(2 Votes)
Desi Themes - Home - Indian themes for PS3, XBox and PC, Desi themes, desi wallpapers In an article on Vooks, EA sports president Peter Moore talks about the future of Cricket as a video game and the long term plans of EA for it. The growing gaming potential in India as well as the growing popularity of the 20/20 version of the game are enough motivation for any Game Developer to come up with a new Cricket game. Here’s a excerpt from the article

"We continue to look at Cricket, you will see us talk about a little bit more about the Indian market for Cricket," Moore said. "We continue to watch the 20/20 format and seeing where that is going, but the National Test game is still the pre-eminent way people want to play the game."

As I have always been saying, its about time for the Game Developers to take note of the gaming boom in India and start making plans for it. In any case I am happy that EA is thinking about a new cricket game for the Wii, and hope others or EA itself will come up with something for the PS3 and Xbox too.
